Tool Changers

MAG Fadal builds machines with two styles of tool changers: umbrella style automatic tool changer or dual arm tool changer.

Umbrella Style Automatic Tool Changer  (ATC)

All Umbrella Tool Changers provided by MAG Fadal feature a motorized system versus a pneumatic system for linear motion. We have noted many times that the quality of air as well as the air pressure at customers’ plants is not consistent. Under these conditions, the set up of a pneumatic linear motion system is difficult and guaranteeing consistent tool change times is not easy. A motorized system is more expensive to buy but does not rely on outside factors for its performance.  Thus, MAG Fadal uses high quality tool changers on its VMCs.

21 Position Umbrella Style Automatic Tool Changer is standard on VMC 2216FX through VMC 4020FX and on VMC 6030 and VMC 8030. As an option, MAG Fadal offers 30 Position Automatic Tool Changer for selected models.  Please refer to option matrix on page … for detailed information

Dual Arm Tool Changer (DATC)

MAG Fadal’s Dual Arm Tool Changer features a 1.9 second tool to tool change time by using a synchronous swing motion.  It picks up the new tool and old tool simultaneously, making the tool change with one continuous and smooth motion.  The Dual Arm ATC accommodates 3” diameter tools (if no adjacent tools 4.5” diameter) and 15” length, weighing up to 15 lbs.  A patented locking drawbar delivers up to 2,000 lbs. of force, holding the tool in place under severe cutting conditions.The 20 Position Dual Arm Tool Changer is available as an option on our small VMCs.The 24 position DATC is standard on VMC 4525 and VMC 6535 40 Taper, can be also an option on VMCs with Y axis travel of 20” or greater.
