Spindle Performance

VMCs are required to provide more versatile performance today than ever before.  Some days the jobs require roughing and finishing aluminum components and the next day the jobs are hogging out steel parts.  Different materials and operations require different cutting capabilities of the spindle, including power, torque, and speed. MAG Fadal in response to these requirements offers spindle options with a wide variety of speed and torque to meet demanding application needs. Combined with a machine architecture that is capable of absorbing vibration through our box way construction and tuned for high axis performance, each of our machines is customized for different applications.

Air/Oil Injection Spindle Lubricating System – Designed for continuous production run

MAG Fadal 10,000 and 15,000 RPM spindles feature an optional air/oil lubrication process  coating the spindle bearings , thus allowing consistent performance throughout the day,  Ceramic (silicon nitride) bearings in steel races feature reduced mass and higher stiffness, which enables them to maintain shape and require less inertia.  Ceramic bearings have a heat expansion rate of about one-third that of steel, which prevents heat build-up at higher speeds and maintains consistent bearing preload.

The air/oil system prevents moisture from entering the spindle cavity with a constant flushing of bearings with new oil and forcing the moisture out.  This extends the life expectancy of the spindle substantially over a grease pack spindle.  Another advantage of the air/oil spindle is that it runs cooler.
